Background

The Juniper Club, a private organization based in Louisville, Kentucky, dates to 1897, when a group of Louisville men were invited to hunt and fish together as the guests of the Jessamine (Nicholasville, Kentucky) Hunting Club. The group incorporated as the Juniper Hunting Club in 1909 when they purchased a large tract of land in central Florida, operated since as a camp for members. Founded by thirty-four influential and well-known Louisville business and professional men, Juniper Club has grown over the years to more than seventy members, many of whom are sons and grandsons of the founders. Club membership is open only to men, and the early camps were strictly stag events. Now, about half of the camps are attended by spouses, widows of members and other female guests. Over twenty camps are scheduled throughout the year.
